1/27/10 Public Art Piece

My Public art piece will be placed write outside of Joshua Cup. While Joshua cup is a great place for students to come hang out and study, the left side of the building is ugly and vacant.

For my art project I will make the coffee cup appear to be embedded into the side wall of the building with the coffee beans spilling out into the sidewalk. This will make the Joshua cup look more inviting and welcoming.

The title of this mosaic art piece is called "Still Standing". This public art piece is supposed to represent the ever changing world. Upon closer inspection on can see the celebration of different people and cultures. The objets in this mosaic represent the journey everybody takes through life. I think this would be a great piece in Macon. This piece celbrates different cultures and stages in life.

Form and Function 1/19/2009

One approach to design is the form follows function. This implies that the form of a design is dictated by the its function. This is a very useful in commercial design. Just because something is being designed for a particular use, does not mean that this object must be boreing or purley for functional reasons. An object can be useful as well as aesthetically pleasing.
In the above picture is the Ovopur water filter. This new design is meant to improve water purification. Its shape is meant to make the circulation of water easier. While this new design has a huge emphasis on function. The form was not all forgotten. This design creates a far more aesthetically pleasing device.

What is Design 1/14/10

Andy Goldsworthy's Balanced Rock is a great example of design. Design is the practice of solving a visual problem or trying to communicate something to an audiance. In this photo, one does not need to think terribly hard about the concepts Goldworthy was trying to convey. The way he designed this picture leaves no question that the theme is balance. Good design is a plan that solves a visual problem or communicates the intended message easily to the audiance. A poster or advertisement accompishes nothing if the meaning is to obscure for the intended audiance to understand.
